ADVENTURE AND CULTURE
Inca Trail - Cusco
Machu Picchu is the mythical "Lost City" of the Incas. Built high above the Urubamba River, at an elevation of nearly 8,000 ft., the ruins stand strong in a hidden and remote location. Most visitors arrive by train from the nearby city of Cusco. More intrepid travelers, however, arrive through the ominous "Sun Gate," after a grueling four-day trek known as the Inca Trail. The hike spans more than 45 kilometers and crosses two 14,000 ft. alpine passes, but the remarkable view of the ruins at sunrise is well worth the challenge. An adventure awaits you..

After your thourough tour of Cuzco and the surrounding area, you will be transferred back to you comfortable Cuzco hotel to rest.

Around 9 a.m. we will cross the Vilcanota River obtaining a panoramic view of the Pisac ruins. You will also visit the local Pisac market where you will find various types of artisan work. You will continue the journey to Urubamba where you will enjoy food from the Cuzco region. During your return to Cusco, you will visit Chinchero, exploring the historical home of Túpac Inca Yupanqui. After the tour’s finale you will be transferred back to your comfortable Cuzco hotel.

The Sacred Valley tour lasts approximately 9 hours.
Day 3. Inca Trail
Early morning hotel pick-up and transfer to kilometer 82 in a private bus. We will stop to have breakfast before beginning your Inka Trail trek. You will begin your journey with a smooth two-hour short trek through the archaeological center of PATALLACTA from where you can appreciate the impressive landscape of flora, fauna and small indigenous towns with Inkan traditions. These archaeological sites show the importance of the Sacred Valley during the Incan Empire. After lunch we will continue ascending to a semi-tropical valley until we arrive at our first campsite, Huayllabamba at (3000.m.a.s.l). Here you’ll spend the night and relax for a full day of hiking.

Day 4. Inca trail
Early morning start, after breakfast trek to the highest point on the trail passing through different climatic and ecological zones as we ascend the WARMIWAÑUSCA pass at 4200 m.a.s.l. For this reason this area is known by many as the cloud forest. Until you reach the summit, you get beautiful views of the Andean mountains covered with Icchu or straw and snow peaks. After a 5 hour walk you´ll finally arrive at the summit. With luck we will see the flight of the condors and will pass among the thick clouds as they fence the sky. After a worthy rest we’ll descend toward our second camp at PACAYMAYU (3500 masl).
Day 5. Inca Trail
PACAYMAYO – HUIÑAYHUAINA. From PACAYMAYU, the trail climbs steeply up the opposite side of the valley wall, towards the second pass. About half to the peak there’s a small round roofless stone building. This Incan remain is known as RUNKURACAY. The building is thought to have been an astronomic site and also a post for couriers following the trail to MACHU PICCHU.

Day 6. Inca Trail
TO MACHUPICCHU. The final section of the trail, from HUIÑAYHUAYNA to INTIPUNKU is an easy hike, with a broad level path, which winds comfortably through scrub and light woodland. Colorful butterflies flutter across the trail. After no more than a couple hours, the trail comes to a narrow flight of stone steps leading upwards into a small stone structure with a grass floor a few meters square. This is INTIPUNKU, the Gateway of the Sun, and through the rectangular doorway, you can see the ruins of Machupicchu.

From INTIPUNKU, a pathway leads directly to MACHU PICCHU itself. This evening you will stay in your comfortable hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes or return to Cuzco via train.
Day 7. Cusco – Lima
After an early morning wake up, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Lima.
